Our Teenagers Cookery Courses in July and August were designed to guide the inexperienced through a week of well planned, interesting and quick recipes. Each day covered new techniques and recipes that were quick and easy to prepare. It was a “hands on” course offering plenty of help and support, we believe that the best way to learn is by actually cooking. All students worked in pairs and each small group was supervised by one of our professional chefs. The ages ranged from 15 – 18 years although our most capable and keen student was a 14 year old!
The Course provided a thorough grounding for those perhaps wanting to work in chalets or galleys or simply develop their interest in food and have an insight to the world of catering and hospitality. By the end of 5 intensive days everyone had progressed from tentatively cracking an egg on Monday to a confident chef by Friday. On Thursday they were whisked off to train on how to do silver service, make a mocktail and open and pour wine professionally.
It was huge fun and we believe that the students would definitely be able to cook a delicious 3 course supper at home for the family.

“Molly, that was such a success, thank you. The photos show them having such fun – we have cockerel tail napkins all the time now! There was such a good mix of menus that they love to eat and are easy to make but look ‘smart and cool’! Well done – there is nowhere else that could mix pupils with ‘professional’ chefs and makes the students realise what the food world is all about and making them feel more grown- up”
“A rather belated note to say thank you. Thomas had a great time on the course and seemed really enthused by it all. He certainly talked about it a lot. He thought the chefs (particularly his) were cool and it was all really useful. We really enjoyed all the food he brought home and were slightly suspicious as to whether he had really cooked them himself as they were so good. A great success from our point of view. “
“The boys seem to be thoroughly enjoying themselves and actually eating the food they’ve prepared - can’t beat that for a sign of approval. James was very much looking forward to the service training today.”
“Congratulations to you all for structuring such a successful programme; Polly is really enjoying the course and has been raving about it to us and her friends. “
“Thank you once again for giving the boys a brilliant week - they have both learnt a lot and really enjoyed seeing your kitchens in action! We’ve all enjoyed the results of their labours - it’s all been delicious. Please let us know if you’re running something like this again and I am sure that Philip would like to come again and go out on a job if he wouldn’t get in the way too much and could be useful.”
“Holly Tilson really enjoyed the cookery classes and gave her first dinner party last week as a result! She has been given confidence to cook for family and friends. She particularly enjoyed the “silver service” lesson. The folder is full of useful tips, from how to plan a dinner party, food combination and hygiene in the kitchen (something I need to smarten up on !!), also all the lovely recipes! The photographs are a happy reminder of what must a been a great week for all the children, well done Blue Strawberry!!”
“However, wanted you to know that they cooked an excellent dinner for the family last week - the chicken, Parma ham and mozzarella recipe followed by the meringue roulade. It was delicious. Robert was around on Sunday and reproduced the meringue roulade for visiting family (for once my brownies were not the family favourite). James, meanwhile, apparently cooked a b-b-q dinner for the friends he was with. Omelette also features high on the quick to do and easy to master when in need of a quick lunch - Robert again cooking, this time for a houseguest whilst I was out. Great stuff.”
